Retoothing
Where it is either too complicated or too expensive to manufacture a new sprocket, it is possible for us to bring your old sprocket back to life by retoothing it.
This service mostly applies to drum brake sprockets and engine or gearbox sprockets, but can also apply to any others.
This method involves machining off the old teeth and welding a plain ring in their place and machining it back to size before cutting a new set of teeth.
If you want, we can re cut with a different number of teeth to what was originally on the sprocket, or even to suit a different chain size.
Unfortunately, there are occasions, when retoothing using this method is going to be very difficult, but there are sometimes alternative methods.
When sending a sprocket in for retoothing, please try and remove as many components as possible, like bearings and spindles, as these normally have to be removed for the purposes of machining and they might be prone to damage during the process if left in place. In the event of us having to remove any components, we will have to charge extra for the time involved.
Also, we would ask that the sprocket is as clean as possible and oil and grease is removed as best you can.
